Welcome to France!
The Rochambeau Chapter in France brings together women whose American and French "patriot" ancestors actively participated in the American War of Independence (1775-1783).
With its bi-cultural roots, and an international membership that embraces several generations, the Rochambeau Chapter actively pursues the shared historical, educational, and cultural goals of the NSDAR, while promoting Franco-American friendship on a day-to-day basis.
Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, Comte de Rochambeau (1725-1807)
Military commander appointed by King Louis XVI to lend vital assistance to General Washington during the War of American Independence (1775-1781).
His remarkable military and leadership skills were instrumental in winning victory for the American colonists at the battle of Yorktown, Virginia (October 19, 1781); this decisive battle ended the War of Independence.
The courage of the French military who fought alongside the American colonists during the War of Independence led to the birth of a new Nation, the United States of America.
